ENERGY TRANSITION – Business Case – Design a National Low Carbon Master Plan
Synthesis
During the project, each sub-group (1 sub-group = 3 or 4 students) set up and and present a Low Carbon Emissions Framework for a country compatible with Net Zero Emissions goals.
Session 1
Interactive exercices on En-Roads simulator (MIT model) in order to identify the levers limiting a temperature increase to less than 2°C in 2100
Restitution by sub-group
Example of France; Net Zero Emissions Master Plan for 2050 (RTE scenarios)
Assigning countries to sub-groups
Example of selected countries; USA, China, India, Nigeria, Poland….
Session 2
Each sub-group analyses its country (demography, economic growth, energy intensity, etc.) and set up a projection of Energy demand for the future years 2030 – 2050 – 2070 ….(several possible scenarios)
Session 3
Identification of priority Energy Efficiency actions applicable to the country.
Analysis of the most relevant low-carbon solutions (hydro, wind, solar, biomass, nuclear, etc.) and construction of an Energy mix leading to the NZE of the country. Costing and phasing of the most appropriate solutions.
Session 4
Analysis of Risk and Success Factors
Drafting of the final report (to be presented at Session 5); Text format – Word document with Executive Summary + Summary slides.
Session 5
Presentation of the proposed action plan during the meeting (20′ per group – group + individual scoring).
