1970 to 1972: teaching at the Institut Algérien du Pétrole (Algerian Petroleum Institute).
1973 to 2003: successively drilling engineer, drilling director, operations director and, on two occasions, exploration subsidiary director.
Spent 75% of his career working as an expatriate.
1969: Engineering degree from Ecole Centrale Lyonnaise.1970: Drilling and Production Engineering Degree from ENSPM.
Taught drilling and production operations at the Algerian Petroleum Institute (Dar El-Beida and Algiers) from 1970 to 1972.

– Exploration and drilling campaign preparation (at various hierarchical levels, as outlined above), often in remote areas and in new countries for Total.
– Involved in auditing, purchasing and financial work on a number of occasions.
– Spent two years assessing fields (exploration, environmental assessments, drilling, well assessments and logistics).
