Fluid-fluid separation processes

Synthesis

Part 1 :- Continuous and batch distillation of binary and multi-component mixes. Graphic resolution methods (McCabe and Thiele) and digital resolution methods. Simplified (shortcut) and rigorous methods. Plate column design (equipment, efficiency and capacity).
– Absorption of one or more components, with or without a chemical reaction. Stripping. Packed column hydrodynamics. The different types of packings and absorbers.
– Using ASPEN + process simulators for each of the above techniques.

Part 2 :
– Liquid-liquid extraction. Single stage and multiple stages, with or without reflux. Extractor types and selection criteria. Supercritical extraction.
– Solid-liquid extraction basics (the principles and equipment).
– Diffusion theory. Fick’s law and Stefan’s law. Convective and molecular transfer coefficients. The analogy between heat and mass transfer
– Using ASPEN + process simulators for each of the above techniques.
