Structural Interpretation in Petroleum Exploration

University : Excellent university, a gigantic campus, buildings and rooms in perfect condition. The organization was perfect with one escort dedicated to us during the whole week from the SPE Chapter. In our case it was the Secretary, the PhD student Conrado Freschi. All the logistics at the university were of high quality. There is even a restaurant (and hotel) for visiting Professors with a good quality/price ratio e.g. around 50 Reals for the meal. The student in charge was our driver with its own car expecting us all the time. Trip : The distance from Rio or Sao Paulo airports is the main disadvantage of this university. For travel, I highly recommend Paris-Sao Paulo flights, both to and from Paris, in order to avoid a very long stopover in Rio. The transport from São Paulo airport to Campinas is about 120 km, an hour and a half to two hours by car. Travel perfectly organized with a driver booked by the subsidiary. This trip will arrive at the hotel in Campinas on Sunday noon and leave on Friday around 13h. The economy in time is important and appreciable. The final overall cost is lower. Students : 30 were enrolled, 28 followed the whole course and participated to the exams. About half were doing a PhD and one third was female. Results were very good. 15 were above the mark of 14 required for passing the course by Brazilian standards. However we will give the marks as they are to the Professor in charge to leave him to decide for everyone. We met Professor Alexandre Vidal which is different to the one who requested the course (Alessandro Batezelli) as he is in charge of the second semester. Allowance : Concerning daily fees, as seems to be generalizing in different countries, the amount is insufficient in comparison with actual local expenses which lead more and more to a complementary reimbursement by TPA.
